SP Energy Networks in Edinburgh is seeking a Senior Environmental Advisor to support environmental compliance across major projects. You will lead the Environmental Adviser team, promote best practice, liaise with regulators and contractors, and ensure EMS effectiveness throughout engineering lifecycles.

The role requires a relevant environmental degree, EMS/auditing experience, and strong communication. Hybrid work, with three days in office, is offered along with a competitive package.

**Senior Environmental Advisor****SP Energy Networks, Edinburgh Park, Edinburgh. EH12 9DJ****Salary from £55,000 with excellent company benefits****Permanent/Hybrid (3 days in office/site and 2 days remote)****Closing Date: 9th October 2026****Purpose**As a Senior Environmental Advisor, you will play a key supporting role within SP Transmission, helping to deliver environmental compliance and providing specialist environmental advice across major engineering and construction projects. Working throughout the entire project lifecycle, from development and construction through to operation and decommissioning, you will ensure environmental considerations are effectively integrated at every stage.You will coordinate and allocate workloads across the Environmental Advisor team, ensuring the appropriate resources are in place to support project delivery. The role also involves providing consistent environmental support across infrastructure projects, monitoring performance trends, and developing and implementing corrective actions to drive continuous improvement.Working closely with the Environmental and Quality Manager, you will support the delivery of departmental objectives by promoting environmental best practice, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and regulatory requirements, and contributing to the maintenance and continual enhancement of the company's Environmental Management System.**Responsibilities** As Senior Environmental Advisor, you will provide professional leadership and direction to the Environmental Advisors, supporting and advising project teams on all aspects of the environment while also managing your own projects. You will promote environmental best practice at all stages of Engineering and Construction projects, engaging and collaborating with stakeholders and regulators and participating in their initiatives. In addition, you will liaise with Contractors’ representatives to establish strong working relationships in relation to environmental management on sites.You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the Environmental Management System (EMS), recommending improvements where required in line with current legislation and industry good practice. The role also involves monitoring and controlling environmental performance on Construction sites, analysing, trending and interpreting environmental information, and preparing annual and ad hoc business reporting requirements for both internal and external distribution.Working closely across the business, you will develop and deliver environmental training and awareness initiatives and represent and promote the Environmental Team in internal and external meetings, workshops, management reviews and forums, communicating best practice standards and initiatives.You will support the implementation of new strategies, techniques and practices to improve environmental performance and efficiencies, helping to deliver waste minimisation, biodiversity net gain and Net Zero commitments.Using findings from reporting data, assessments, and external and internal audits, you will drive the T3 Environmental Action Plan and help inform key business decisions. You will also act as the first point of contact for Environmental escalation issues.**What you’ll bring**To be successful in this role, you will bring proven experience of delivering similar responsibilities on major energy projects, preferably within the Utility Transmission sector.You will have significant experience of environmental management systems, environmental auditing and working with environmental regulators, ideally gained within a commercially focused Utility, service or Construction business. A proactive and diligent approach is essential, alongside strong influencing, consulting and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.You will possess in-depth knowledge of current and emerging environmental legislation, coupled with innovative and creative problem-solving abilities that enable you to balance and manage conflicting requirements. Experience of collaborating with multiple parties is important, and an ISO 14001 Lead Auditor qualification would be advantageous.As a minimum, you will hold a degree in a relevant Environmental discipline and have experience in a relevant field and role, with Construction or Utility project experience being preferable. You will demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills, supported by a thorough understanding of current and developing environmental legislation and ISO 14001 requirements.
