Job summary

North East Surrey College of Technology (NESCOT) in Epsom is seeking a dedicated SEN support assistant to work term-time only. You will provide in-class support, advocate for students, and help develop study skills and independence.

You will build strong relationships with SENCOs, parents and carers, coordinate with the Careers Team, and assist with transitions to internships, employment or further study. The role demands initiative, professionalism and adaptability to students' needs.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work in a small team.
  • Initiative and decision-making.
  • Ambassador for the college with professionalism.
  • Adaptable to the needs of students.
  • Good organisation and IT for administrative tasks.
  • Experience of supporting students with SEN including SEMH.
  • GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above or evidence that you can support students to study at this level.

Responsibilities

  • Build trusting professional relationships with school SENCOs, parents and carers.
  • Liaise with parents and carers.
  • Share best practice with curriculum staff.
  • Attend Annual Reviews for School Links students, as required.
  • Arrange bespoke transition visits, as required.
  • Attend open days and transition events for feeder schools and Local Authorities.
  • In class support to students and act as an advocate.
  • Help students develop study skills and grow their independence.
  • Contribute to monitoring of students.
  • Work with the Careers Team to support students moving on from College into Supported Internship, employment or further study.

What We Are Looking For
  • Ability to work in a small team

  • Experience of supporting students with special educational needs including SEMH.

Nescot is graded 'Good' by Ofsted following its latest inspection in January 2023. Inspectors rated the College as Good in all 8 aspects. The report recognises that students "enjoy their courses and are motivated to succeed", and benefit from "highly supportive relationships" with staff. Safeguarding arrangements are "effective" with regular training for staff, and leaders have in place "an effective policy for safer recruitment."
