Job description

About the school

New Meaning Training is an alternative education provider dedicated to helping young people aged 15-25 discover their strengths and develop the confidence and skills to earn their own living.

For the 2025-2026 academic year, approximately 300 young people from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands and Berkshire will join one of the programmes.

Many students are referred by secondary schools, pupil referral units and special educational needs settings.

The organisation began in 2015 with its first centre in High Wycombe. It continues to grow, with new centres opening in Nuneaton and Milton Keynes in September 2025.

Programmes include Construction Multiskills, Motor Mechanics, Sports, Hair & Beauty, Computing, Childcare, Catering and Boost Workskills. All incorporate functional skills qualifications in Maths and English.

The provider also offers a Transition Support programme for young people with EHCPs who are not yet ready for a formal learning setting.

Programmes are tailored to meet the needs of learners with SEND and SEMH requirements, applying the principles of a Loving Care Approach (Trauma-Informed Practice).

The role

New Meaning Training seeks a Transition Support Tutor to work with young people who face significant barriers including anxiety, autism, trauma or other social-emotional challenges. The role begins with learners in the setting where they feel safest, often at home, and supports a gradual transition into small group settings, one of the Buckinghamshire centres, and potentially mainstream classes or employment. The tutor will deliver Proactive Lifeskills (PALS), SEMH support and, when appropriate, Functional Skills in Maths and English. Success in the role depends on the ability to build relationships, adapt approaches and support each learner on an individual journey.

Key responsibilities
  • Deliver 1:1 and small group sessions centred on lifeskills, emotional wellbeing and learning goals
  • Plan and adapt engaging sessions tailored to individual learner needs and progression
  • Support transitions across different settings (home to group, centre and work)
  • Maintain clear and up-to-date records of learner progress, attendance and engagement
  • Collaborate with tutors and support staff on schemes of work and learning plans
  • Participate in learner onboarding, induction and review processes
  • Develop and adapt learning resources for SEND and SEMH learners
  • Apply trauma-informed and relational strategies to support behaviour and wellbeing
  • Understand learner needs and respond with appropriate interventions
  • Use Microsoft Office confidently for planning and reporting
Requirements
  • Full UK driving licence and business-insured vehicle (essential)
  • Experience working with young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A calm, resilient and empathetic approach
  • Confidence to work independently and flexibly across different settings
  • A passion for enabling learners to build confidence and independence
  • Commitment to ongoing CPD and professional development
  • Level 3 Award in Education & Training (or willingness to complete within three months)
  • Safeguarding & Wellbeing Training, Advanced Safeguarding Children (Level 2), PREVENT Duty and Mental Health Awareness (or willingness to complete within three months)
Benefits & package
  • Permanent, full-time, all-year-round contract
  • 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 08:30-16:30
  • Salary negotiable and based on experience
