Job summary

EMSOU is seeking a Transferee SOC Operations Detective Chief Inspector to join the senior leadership team. The role leads complex investigations and shapes strategic direction across regional and national priorities for Serious & Organized Crime.

You will advise the Head of Unit, monitor performance, and ensure efficient use of resources while maintaining high standards of professional conduct and security.

Qualifications

• Must be a substantive Chief Inspector with experience (min 12 months) at Chief Inspector or Inspector level leading Serious & Organized Crime, Major Crime, or other complex portfolios.
• Proven experience overseeing complex, multi-faceted criminal investigations, including covert and proactive tactics.
• Demonstrable experience leading, motivating and developing teams, setting strategic objectives and monitoring performance.

Responsibilities

EMSOU is one of the largest collaborative policing units in the country, delivering specialist capabilities on behalf of the five East Midlands police forces & focuses on intelligence gathering and the disruption and investigation of serious and organised crime.

What you’ll be doing

• As a member of the SOC Senior Leadership Team, you will advise and support the Head of Unit through both formal and informal communication, including preparation for, and active participation in, Unit management, tasking, operational and strategic meetings.
• Contribute effectively to the development, monitoring and delivery of the EMSOU Strategy and Delivery Plan, you will ensure alignment with regional, national, and international priorities relating to Serious & Organised Crime.
• You will ensure that EMSOU investigative and operational activity is prioritised in accordance with Unit aims and objectives, national and regional tasking processes, and in a manner that ensures the most effective and efficient use of available human, technical and financial resources.

The must haves

• Must be a substantive Chief Inspector, and can demonstrate experience (minimum 12 months) at Chief Inspector or Inspector level leading Serious & Organised Crime (SOC), Major Crime, or other complex investigative portfolios.

Security Requirements - This post requires regular access to sensitive material and applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo enhanced security clearance before taking up the post. The material may be of sensitivity to the UK and may therefore be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances, dual nationals (of which one element is British) may be granted access. However, if potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed, the post holder will not be permitted access to the systems or material required for the role and will not therefore be able to perform their duties. For the purposes of safeguarding national security, applicants who do not hold or achieve the required levels of security clearance requirements cannot be offered the post.
