Job summary

Alecto Recruitment Limited is seeking an experienced Transfer Station Manager in Ipswich to lead a busy waste management operation. The role focuses on safety, efficiency and profitability, requiring strong people leadership and commercial acumen.

You will oversee day-to-day operations, coach a growing team and drive improvements across KPIs while maintaining high standards of service delivery in a unionised environment.

Qualifications

• Valid COTC qualification is essential.
• Experience as an Operations Manager or Site Manager in waste/logistics or similar service-led industry.
• Experience managing people and health and safety in a unionised environment.
• Strong leadership, communication and commercial management skills.
• Proactive approach to continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
• IOSH or NEBOSH qualification would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Managing day-to-day site operations with health, safety, environmental compliance and security.
• Leading, coaching and developing the team to deliver customer service.
• Monitoring KPIs and driving improvements in productivity, quality and cost control.

Location: Ipswich | Monday-Friday | 37.5 hours per week

£45,000 - £55,000

IMPORTANT: A valid Certificate of Technical Competence (COTC) is essential for this role. Applicants without a COTC cannot be considered.

We're looking for an experienced Transfer Station Manager to take ownership of a busy waste management operation in Ipswich.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established Operations Manager, Site Manager or Logistics Manager to combine strong people leadership with commercial responsibility, ensuring the site operates safely, efficiently and profitably.

What you'll be responsible for

• Managing day-to-day site operations, ensuring high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and security.
• Leading, coaching and developing your team to deliver excellent customer service.
• Monitoring operational KPIs and driving improvements in productivity, quality and cost control.
• Managing the site's P&L budget and identifying opportunities to improve profitability.
• Overseeing employee relations and maintaining effective working practices within a unionised environment.
• Working collaboratively across the business to improve performance and service delivery.

What we're looking for
