Job summary

Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting Transfer Practitioners to join the ARCC KSS team. The role is based at Crawley or Maidstone with 12-hour day shifts and a part-time, substantive basis.

As part of the clinical transfer team you will work with a Critical Care consultant to safely transfer critically ill adults, contributing to governance and service development. Training for local/national qualifications is supported.

Qualifications

• Registered professional (NMC/HCPC) in nursing, ACCP, ODP or paramedic.
• Post-registration critical care course or equivalent.
• Excellent knowledge and clinical skills in assessing and managing critically ill patients.
• Current adult resuscitation certificate (ILS or equivalent).
• Retrieval/Transfer course (e.g. STricT) or willingness to complete on appointment.
• Evidence of degree-level qualification.

Job description

Exciting opportunities are now available to join the new Adult Critical Care Transfer team (ACCTS) in Kent, Surrey & Sussex (KSS). This new service, known as the ARCC KSS, will strive to provide a high standard of critical care medicine to adult patients requiring inter-hospital transfers across the region and into London for reasons such as escalation of care, repatriation, capacity and continuation of care. We are now recruiting highly skilled and compassionate Transfer Practitioners (TPs) to join our team. We would like to hear from you if you are passionate about critical care and ensuring the safe and effective transfer of critically unwell adults.

Transfer Practitioners can choose to be based at either or both of our hubs in Crawley, West Sussex or Maidstone, Kent. The shifts are 12-hour day shifts from 0900-2100.
This role is offered on a part time, substantive basis. The part time nature of the role will ensure continued working in your usual critical care setting. Hours can be discussed on a person to person basis.

Main duties of the job

TPs may come from a critical care nursing, ODP, ACCP or paramedic background, please see the job description for further details. As part of the clinical team you will be expected to complete the transfer of critically unwell adult patients with a Critical Care consultant. Each member of the team will be expected to contribute to the safe and effective running of the service, have excellent communication skills and contribute actively to the governance of the service. The Critical Care Transfer Practitioner role is a challenging and rewarding career choice. Each transfer is unique with critically ill patients presenting with a large range of conditions and needs, with new challenges on every transfer. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The main role of the TP is to work closely with medical colleagues as part of the with the ARCC clinical transfer team to deliver high-quality, safe and effective care whilst undertaking inter-hospital transfers. The TP provides support, care and necessary clinical interventions to patients in the hospital and transfer environment, using appropriate skills and equipment, ensuring they are transferred efficiently and safely to a facility which is best suited to provide treatment for their on-going clinical needs.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse, ACCP, ODP or paramedic registered with NMC or HCPC.
• Post-registration critical care course or equivalent.
• Excellent knowledge and clinical skills in assessing and managing critically ill or deteriorating patients.
• Successful completion of IV medication administration and IV pump training.
• Successful completion of blood transfusion competencies.
• Successfully completed a Retrieval/Transfer Course (e.g. STricT) or willingness to complete upon appointment.
• Current adult resuscitation certificate (ILS or equivalent)
• Ability to interpret, analyse and act on information from multiple sources.
• Local knowledge of the operational area and structure of the health care provision within the usual operational area.
• Evidence of relevant teaching/instructing in critical care or transfer.
• Completion of an advanced physical assessment course.
• Current advanced adult resuscitation certification (ALS or equivalent).
• Higher qualification in retrieval/transfer medicine (e.g. Diploma Immediate Medical Care, Diploma Retrieval and Transfer Medicine
• Evidence of degree level qualification

Knowledge

• Significant relevant post registration experience in managing critically ill or deteriorating patients
• Evidence of managing critically ill or deteriorating patients within the last 18 months
• Evidence of mentorship/preceptorship roles.
• Experience of formal/informal teaching
• Evidence of teaching/instructing in resuscitation or relevant subject.
