Job summary

QC Legal in Birmingham is seeking a qualified construction lawyer to join our national Projects & Construction practice. The role focuses on advising on infrastructure and real estate projects, drafting complex construction documents, and delivering strategic project delivery across sectors.

You will work with developers, contractors, investors and public bodies, developing deep sector knowledge and building client relationships within a nationally connected team.

Qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer with 2-4 years’ PQE in transactional construction.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating construction documentation and project agreements.
  • Exposure to infrastructure, development or other construction projects.
  • Commercially focused approach to advising on complex transactional matters.
  • Confident working with developers, contractors, investors and public sector organisations.
  • Ability to work with lawyers across disciplines and locations.
  • Interest in building client relationships and contributing to business development.
  • Keen to deepen sector knowledge across real estate development, energy, infrastructure, rail and utilities.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on construction aspects of infrastructure projects, real estate developments and projects across energy, rail and utilities.
  • Draft and negotiate construction documentation and project agreements.
  • Work on development projects spanning commercial, residential and mixed-use schemes, universities and institutional portfolios.
  • Gain experience on large-scale national programmes, including framework agreements, cladding remediation programmes and strategic project delivery models.
  • Advise developers, contractors, investors, public bodies and other organisations involved in project delivery.
  • Collaborate with Projects, Real Estate and Regulatory teams for coordinated advice.
  • Build client relationships and participate in business development.
  • Take on substantive responsibility while developing transactional construction expertise within a national practice.

About the Firm

Complex construction projects require lawyers who can understand not only the documentation, but the commercial and sector context behind it. This role sits within an established national Projects & Construction practice advising organisations involved in infrastructure, development and the wider built environment.

Based in Birmingham, the team works with developers, institutional investors, contractors, supply chain participants, public sector bodies, universities and infrastructure and utilities providers. Its work spans real estate development, energy, rail, utilities, manufacturing and public sector projects, with lawyers regularly working alongside colleagues across complementary disciplines and offices.

The Opportunity
  • Advise on the construction aspects of infrastructure projects, real estate developments and projects across sectors including energy, rail and utilities.

  • Take on increasingly substantive responsibility while developing your transactional construction expertise within a national practice.
The Ideal Candidate
  • A qualified lawyer with 2-4 years’ PQE and relevant transactional construction experience.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating construction documentation and project agreements.
  • Exposure to infrastructure, development or other construction-related projects.
  • A commercially focused approach to advising clients on complex transactional matters.
  • Confident working with a range of stakeholders including developers, contractors, investors and public sector organisations.
  • Able to work effectively with lawyers across different disciplines and locations.
  • Interested in building client relationships and contributing to business development.
