Job summary

Cardiff Council is seeking a Training Team Manager to lead strategic planning, delivery and evaluation of training across Adult Services and the wider social care sector. You will manage a skilled team, oversee grant-funded programmes, and ensure compliance with national standards to improve care quality in Cardiff.

The role requires strong leadership, project management, and collaboration, with a mix of office-based work at County Hall and occasional home/alternative locations.

  • A collaborative approach to partnership working.
  • You must be able to work flexibly, including occasional evenings.
  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
  • This role is based at County Hall but includes some home working and agile working across various locations.
  • A recognised management qualification is desirable and experience in social care research or working at a senior level in a local authority.

About the job

As our Training Team Manager you will be part of a job-share arrangement leading the strategic planning, delivery, and evaluation of training and development across Adult Services and the wider social care sectorwith a strong interface with Children’s Services learning and development functions. You’ll manage a dedicated and experienced team, oversee grant-funded programmes, and ensure compliance with national standards. From supporting student placements to shaping local and regional workforce strategies, your work will directly impact the quality of care across Cardiff and will play a pivotal role in quality assurance and service development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the implementation of the SCWWDP
  • Managing training budgets and grant applications and reporting
  • Designing and evaluating training programmes
  • Supporting the professional development of social work students, social workers and the social care sector
  • Representing the Council at regional and national forums
What We Are Looking For From You

We are seeking a dynamic leader with:

The ability to speak other languages, in particular Welsh, and Community Languages would be an advantage.
