Job summary

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay is seeking a motivated Trainee Sonographer to join our Ultrasound service. You will receive on-the-job training and mentorship, with a view to completing a Post-graduate Diploma in Ultrasound, developing autonomous Ultrasound practice across multiple areas.

You will join a forward-thinking department, with support from lead sonographers, and a schedule that includes 7-day service with weekend and bank holiday duties.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Radiography.
• HCPC Registered.
• Minimum 1 year post qualification experience.
• Commitment to undertake a Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound.
• Evidence of CPD.
• Evidence of interest in Ultrasound.

Responsibilities

• Organise workload and scan inpatients, outpatients and GP referrals.
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team with excellent communication.
• Participate in a 7 day service and weekend/bank holiday rota.
• Provide cross-site cover as required by the service.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Trainee Sonographer to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to develop a career in medical ultrasound imaging. You will receive comprehensive on-the-job training and mentorship from experienced sonographers while working in a supportive and dynamic environment.

This will involve theoretical and practical study through the completion of a Post-graduate Diploma in Ultrasound. This is a challenging, yet rewarding programme of study offering the opportunity to develop high-level skills required of an autonomous Ultrasound practitioner in multiple areas of Ultrasound practice.

We are a forward thinking department, committed to training, encouraging and supporting personal development. We have a lead sonographer in place to support the sonographers and help develop the ultrasound service.

Main duties of the job

You will be a flexible team player with excellent communication skills and able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will be required to organise your workload according to demand, scanning inpatients, outpatients and GP referrals. We expect a high quality of patient care to maintain our efficient and cost effect service.

The Ultrasound department operates 7 day working. On completion of training, you will be expected to participate in the weekend and bank holiday rota. The service supports flexible working arrangements the majority of our team contribute to extended days through flexible contracts.

Although based at the Westmorland General Hospital, you will be required to provide cover at all Trust Sites as the service requires.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications
