An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sonographer to join the expanding Ultrasound Department at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital. Applicants must hold a PGDip in Medical Ultrasound and be competent in core ultrasound services including General Medical (including paediatrics), Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Candidates practising solely in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy Care (EPC) are also encouraged to apply.
Current Trainee Sonographers awaiting results for 2026 will also be considered but offer will be subject to successful course completion - PGDip in Medical Ultrasound and evidence of ratified results.
10% recruitment and retention premia applies to this post and will be added to the advertised salary.
Part-time candidates interested in evening and weekend work may also be considered.
The L&D Ultrasound Service comprises General Imaging and the Women's Health Unit, supported by a friendly team of qualified and trainee sonographers. The department actively promotes continuing professional development (CPD), with regular participation in clinical governance and audit activities.
Facilities include 13 ultrasound rooms across the General Department, Women's Health Unit and Early Pregnancy Unit, equipped with modern Samsung RS80 EVO and Hera W10 systems, supported by an ongoing equipment replacement programme.
All candidates must be able to attend a face-to-face interview and practical assessment.
The main duties of this role are to independently perform and report ultrasound examinations in General Medical, Obstetrics and Gynaecology (including Paediatrics and EPC).
We train student Sonographers on a regular basis and the successful candidates would play a key role in this training.
