Job description

Trainee Site Manager - North West England

Salary - £33,440 per annum with competitive Pension & Benefits

Help us create a better future, quicker

SP Energy Networks is part of the Iberdrola Group which is one of the world's largest integrated utility companies and a world leader in wind energy. At SP Energy Networks, we keep electricity flowing to homes and businesses throughout North Wales, Merseyside, Cheshire and North Shropshire constructing infrastructure for major projects. We take this very seriously by investing over £2 billion into our networks north and south, directly supporting the rapid growth needed in renewable energy. With diverse opportunities across our businesses and a commitment to invest in our own internal talent, Scottish Power can offer people real career opportunities that meet personal and professional goals, in a global organisation.

As a Trainee site manager your day-to-day location will be site based and you will be assigned to a SPEN depot or head office. This is primarily for business mileage expenses related to travel to and from construction sites.

Inclusion, diversity, and a social purpose are at the heart of everything we do. Together with our values, they bring us together into a stronger, more sustainable business with direct links to the communities we serve. It takes all kinds of people to build a large-scale business like ours, so whatever your background, you'll fit right in.

What you'll be doing

This role sits within the Project Delivery team of SPM 132kV Networks business which is home to the Construction Management Team (CMT). This small but diverse team is responsible for the construction of new build, replacement or refurbishment of substations and infrastructure associated major electrical projects; you will be one part of a multi-disciplined team responsible for delivering these projects from start to finish.

During this program you will have a mentor that will monitor and assist you through our processes and work management. You will then build up an understanding of electrical /civil design drawings, circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams and inspection and testing. You will then progress and gain a good knowledge and involvement installing and testing techniques associated with the following areas: excavations, ducts, trenches, troughs, foundations, rebar installations, structural steelwork, building direction, cladding, roofing, drainage, electrical earthing installations, fencing, use of concrete and control of contaminated ground plus the experience of the planning and management of civil and electrical works at 33kV and 132kV, including enabling, foundations, buildings and remediation works.

You will also gain experience in all current health and safety legislation and CDM Regulations 2015 including duty holder roles most notably in the Principal Contractor role and management of NEC Option B and FIDIC type contracts.

What you'll bring

Upon successful completion of the course, the candidate will earn a CIOB Certificate and Diploma in Site Management (CDDSM) qualification through online distance learning and evaluated coursework. This pathway suits individuals with supervisory experience in the transmission sector, possessing technical knowledge and a track record of leading teams or works packages. On the other hand, qualified candidates lacking experience, such as those with electrical, civil engineering, or construction management qualifications, will benefit from on-the-job learning, coaching, and mentoring from seasoned Site and Construction managers. The duration of the development will vary based on individual qualifications, with successful candidates from both pathways expecting the programme to take between eighteen months to two years for completion.

As a Trainee Site Manager, you'll enjoy a range of benefits, including a starting salary of £33,440 and a generous pension scheme where contributions are double matched up to 10%. Additionally, you will have access to a broad range of flexible benefits such as share incentive plans, employee discounts, charity-matched funding, and more. Upon completion of the programme, your development within the business will continue with a rising salary to £36,648.

What's in it for you

As well as a competitive salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits. With our pension scheme, we'll double match your contribution up to a company contribution of 10%.
