As a Trainee site manager your day-to-day location will be site based and you will be assigned to a SPEN depot or head office. This is primarily for business mileage expenses related to travel to and from construction sites.

What you'll be doing
This role sits within the Project Delivery team of SPM 132kV Networks business which is home to the Construction Management Team (CMT). This small but diverse team is responsible for the construction of new build, replacement or refurbishment of substations and infrastructure associated major electrical projects; you will be one part of a multi-disciplined team responsible for delivering these projects from start to finish.
During this program you will have a mentor that will monitor and assist you through our processes and work management. You will then build up an understanding of electrical /civil design drawings, circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams and inspection and testing. You will then progress and gain a good knowledge and involvement installing and testing techniques associated with the following areas: excavations, ducts, trenches, troughs, foundations, rebar installations, structural steelwork, building direction, cladding, roofing, drainage, electrical earthing installations, fencing, use of concrete and control of contaminated ground plus the experience of the planning and management of civil and electrical works at 33kV and 132kV, including enabling, foundations, buildings and remediation works.
You will also gain experience in all current health and safety legislation and CDM Regulations 2015 including duty holder roles most notably in the Principal Contractor role and management of NEC Option B and FIDIC type contracts.

Upon successful completion of the course, the candidate will earn a CIOB Certificate and Diploma in Site Management (CDDSM) qualification through online distance learning and evaluated coursework. This pathway suits individuals with supervisory experience in the transmission sector, possessing technical knowledge and a track record of leading teams or works packages. On the other hand, qualified candidates lacking experience, such as those with electrical, civil engineering, or construction management qualifications, will benefit from on-the-job learning, coaching, and mentoring from seasoned Site and Construction managers. The duration of the development will vary based on individual qualifications, with successful candidates from both pathways expecting the programme to take between eighteen months to two years for completion.
