Job summary

Kemp Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Trainee Area Sales Manager in Portsmouth, covering Dorset/Hampshire. You will receive comprehensive training in the material handling industry and work with experienced sales professionals to build your career in field sales.

As you grow, you will take increasing responsibility for your own territory, develop new business opportunities and build strong relationships with customers across Bournemouth and surrounding areas.

Qualifications

• Open to degree holders from any discipline or those who can demonstrate equivalent commercial drive.
• Positive, competitive attitude with the ability to handle sales rejections.

Responsibilities

• Complete structured training covering technical products, including new and used forklift equipment.
• Identify and develop new business opportunities within your designated territory.
• Generate new leads through telephone, email, networking and direct business development.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing customers.
• Shadow experienced Area Sales Managers on customer visits, learning effective sales, negotiation and closing techniques.
• Support the management of existing customer accounts to maximise satisfaction and retention.
• Maintain accurate records of leads, prospecting activity and customer interactions using the CRM system.
• Work towards agreed sales targets and KPIs, with the opportunity to significantly increase earnings through performance-related commission.

Key Responsibilities

You will have:

• Education & Drive: Open to degree holders of any discipline (Business, Sports Science, History, etc.) or individuals who can demonstrate equivalent commercial drive and a hunger to succeed.
• Resilience: A positive, competitive attitude with the ability to handle the natural rejections of sales and keep pushing forward.
• Communication Skills: Confident, articulate verbal and written skills, comfortable engaging with business owners and decision-makers.
• Mobility: A full UK driving licence is essential, as this role transitions into a field-based position.
• Experience: Previous sales experience is an advantage, but not essential.
