The Role
Are you used to working outdoors in all weathers? Do you come from a landscape gardening, farming or fencing background or have experience of working with agricultural machinery? If so, we would love to hear from you!

Our Civils Infrastructure Team are looking for a Trainee Civils Operative with a can-do attitude to join our Vibratory Mole Plough and Directional Drilling teams. Our unique trench-less equipment allows for simple and efficient network build across varying soil types and terrain.

Reporting to one of our experienced team leaders, you will be working within our larger Civil Engineering Department. Initially, your main role will be supporting the smooth running of the mole plough and/or drilling machines.

The successful candidate doesn’t have to have experience within a civils construction role, nor do you need qualifications as full training and support will be given by our experienced team. We are happy to work with you to become an excellent Civils Operative.

The successful Candidate will undergo a structured Induction and Probationary training plan. At Wessex, we are proud to offer ongoing development and career opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Work cohesively as part of a team
• Operate excavation machinery to complete fibre lay, manhole installation and construction of telecommunication cabinets
• Identify and feedback on issues/challenges which may hinder the team's progress
• Support carrying out regular maintenance checks on machinery
• Instil safe working practices
• Raise any concerns around potential H&S risks
• Record and feedback any accidents and/or near misses to the Team Leader
• Support in training new team members

Applicants will require

• A full UK driving license
• Ability to work in a range of field environments
• Enjoy working outdoors in an active role
• Work well as part of a team
• Prior experience working on agricultural land, excavation and/or cable/pipe works an advantage but not necessary as full training will be given

Advantageous but not essential

• B&E trailer license
• CSCS
• Street Works / Cable Avoidance

Shortlisted applicants will be offered a Trial Day with the Civils team instead of a formal interview. At Wessex Internet, we value the importance of candidates fully understanding what our field-based roles involve. The successful candidates will receive full payment for this trial day in their first pay packet.

Salary: £28,600 per annum to £29,000 per annum, depending on experience (based on 45 hour week, plus additional hours at agreed hourly rate plus a time and a half for weekend working – optional)
Hours: Monday 7 am - 5/6 pm, Tuesday to Friday 7.30 am - 5/6 pm based on 45 hour week plus additional hours
Holiday: 25 days plus bank holidays
