Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist with budgets, estimates and cost plans.
• Take-off measurements and material take-offs.
• Support subcontractor enquiries, quotations and tender comparisons.
• Assist with procurement of subcontractors and materials.
• Help prepare subcontract orders and commercial documentation.
• Monitor project costs against budgets.
• Assist with valuations, variations and final accounts.
• Attend project/site meetings as required.
• Collaborate with Contracts Managers, Project Managers and site teams.
• Maintain accurate commercial records across each project.
• Develop understanding of contracts and procedures.

Education

HNC, HND or degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or other relevant construction subject

Trainee Quantity Surveyor

Near Romsey, Hampshire

Salary £30,000 - £35,000 + Car Allowance + 22 Days Holiday + Pension

Blaymires Recruitment is representing an established construction and interior fit-out contractor based near Romsey, which is looking to appoint a Trainee Quantity Surveyor.

The company delivers high-quality construction, refurbishment and interior fit-out projects across the UK. Its work covers the retail, hospitality, leisure, health and beauty, and commercial workplace sectors.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate, college leaver or junior construction professional looking to begin and develop a career in quantity surveying.

You will work closely with an experienced commercial and project management team, receiving practical training across the financial, administration and contractual management of construction and fit-out projects.

The role of the Trainee Quantity Surveyor:

• Assist with the preparation of project budgets, estimates and cost plans.
• Undertake measurements and produce material take-offs.
• Assist with subcontractor enquiries, quotations and tender comparisons.
• Support the procurement of subcontractors and construction materials.
• Help prepare subcontract orders and commercial documentation.
• Monitor project costs against agreed budgets.
• Assist with valuations, variations and final accounts.
• Attend project and site meetings when required.
• Work closely with Contracts Managers, Project Managers and site teams.
• Help maintain accurate commercial records throughout each project.
• Develop an understanding of construction contracts and commercial procedures.
• Visit live construction and fit-out projects across the UK.

Trainee Quantity Surveyor requirements:

• An HNC, HND or degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or another relevant construction-related subject.
• Applications are welcomed from recent graduates and college leavers with no previous industry experience.
• Candidates with up to two years' experience in construction, quantity surveying or commercial management will also be considered.
• A genuine interest in developing a career in quantity surveying.
• Good numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
• A good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office programs.
• Full UK driving licence preferred.
• Willingness to travel to project sites when required.
• Live within a commutable distance to the office.
