Job summary

North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare Trust in Stoke-on-Trent is offering a trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner role within the Stoke NHS Talking Therapies Service. The program, delivered through Newman University, trains you to deliver low intensity interventions and supports patients with common mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.

The post is funded as a trainee PWP, with induction starting in January 2027 and a pathway to qualify via the PWP course in 2027.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Undertakes patient-centred interviews which identifies areas where the person wishes to see change and/or recovery and assesses risk to self and others.
• Maintain standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating bodies, and keep up to date on guidelines such as NHS plans and NICE recommendations.
• Prepare and present clinical information for all patients on their caseload to their clinical supervisors to ensure safe practice and meet course requirements.

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Stoke NHS Talking Therapy Service, a Primary Care Psychological Therapy Service in Stoke-on-Trent offering innovative and effective treatments for a broad range of mental health problems in primary care, focusing on anxiety disorders and depression.

If you are a highly organised and motivated individual with a commitment to the NHS and patient care then we would welcome your application to study for the professional role of Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner. Successful candidates will be trained to deliver Low Intensity Psychological Interventions, which are the cornerstone of NHS Talking Therapies Services.

The program of learning is delivered by Newman University. If successful the post holder will be required to start induction with the service on Monday 25th January 2027, in preparation for the course on Wednesday 3rd February 2027. The training programme consists of a minimum of 1 day face to face teaching, undertake 1 day of self-directed study and provide 3 days of clinical practice per week offering assessments and low intensity treatment to patients presenting with common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. The postholder will receive appropriate support throughout their training journey.

Band 4 equivalent £28,392 to £31,157 per annum, full time 37.5 hrs per week.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit a number of trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWP). You should have significant paid experience working in a mental health setting and If successful you will be nominated and supported to apply for the post graduate certificate PWP course at Newham University, Birmingham in the 2027 cohort commencing in February 2027.

If successful, you will be funded to work as trainee PWP within the Stoke NHS Talking Therapies Service employed by Changes Health and Wellbeing Service. You must be in a position to submit an application to the university in good time to participate in their selection process.

Job responsibilities
