Prime Appointments in Colchester is seeking a Trainee Mechanical Technician to join a specialist engineering team in a precision workshop. You will learn to build, set up, calibrate, test, and overhaul mechanical governors used in heavy industrial engines and machinery.

No prior governor experience is required as full comprehensive training is provided from day one. The role offers full training, a clear progression path, and a structured learning environment within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Mechanical background in automotive, plant, marine, agricultural, or industrial mechanics.
• Experience with hand tools and power tools; working with mechanical assemblies.
• High attention to detail, precision and quality workmanship.
• Willingness to follow structured engineering drawings and instructions.
• Good communication and teamwork within a small expert team.

Responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical governor units and sub-assemblies.
• Set up governors on test benches and calibrate to specifications.
• Strip down, inspect, clean and assess parts for wear.
• Complete service records, test reports and quality checks.
• Collaborate with senior technicians on complex builds and fault investigations.
