Job summary

Cogent Staffing is seeking a motivated Furnace Operative to join our client’s team in Leeds. You will work closely with the Furnace Supervisor to ensure furnaces run efficiently and safely, supporting production targets and responding to day-to-day operational needs.

The role requires working core hours 08:00–17:00 Monday to Friday, with nights, weekends, and 12-hour shifts during peak periods. Training will be provided and premium rates apply for nights, bank holidays, and overtime.

Qualifications

• Strong commitment to Health & Safety and safe working practices.
• Hard-working and reliable in a busy environment.
• Basic computer literacy and confidence using internal data logging systems.
• Basic understanding of electrical systems.
• Full training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Support the Furnace Supervisor with running and checking furnaces.
• Work core hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00 (flexibility for operational requirements).
• Be able to work days, weekends, and nights when required.
• Carry out start-up and shut-down procedures for the furnaces.
• Monitor and adjust furnace control panels as required.
• Respond to and assist with production faults and any operational issues.
• Change miller screens and complete cleaning tasks including vacuum and filter changes/cleaning.
• Monitor readings and running levels to ensure the correct specification is met.
• Communicate with R&D engineers and the R&D manager to support production and quality requirements.
• Ensure production targets are achieved, recording average stats and total output accurately.
• Carry out general fault finding and troubleshooting while the furnace is running.
