Job summary

Careys in Glasgow is seeking a motivated Trainee Estimator with a degree in civil engineering, quantity surveying, or construction management to grow within our estimating team.

You will measure from tender drawings, prepare bills of quantities and assist senior estimators with estimates and rate bills, contributing to bids for bulk earthworks, roadworks, RC frames and related projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Construction Management.
• Experience in civil engineering or construction management with exposure to bulk earthworks, groundworks, roadworks and RC frames.
• Familiarity with measurement methods, especially SMM7.
• Proficiency with electronic measuring tools such as Bluebeam or ACC Take Off Tool.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience using estimating software such as Candy or similar.

Responsibilities

• Review and understand the scope of works, drawings and specifications.
• Use Bluebeam or ACC Take Off Tool to measure and take off quantities from drawings.
• Produce bills of quantities following applicable methods of measurement.
• Compile supplier/sub-contractor enquiries for tender buying.
• Rate items within bills of quantities from first principles.
• Participate in mid-bid, tender review and adjudication/settlement meetings.
• Attend client meetings, including pre/post contract interviews.
• Encourage knowledge sharing and upskilling across the team.

Role Purpose:

As an Assistant Estimator, you'll play a crucial role in our estimating team, reporting to the Managing Estimator. Your main responsibilities will include undertaking measurements from tender drawings, preparing bills of quantities, and assisting estimators in compiling estimates and rate bills of quantities.
