Job summary

Farrans is seeking a Trainee Estimator to join our Pre-Contract team. Working alongside experienced Estimators, Quantity Surveyors and Bid Managers, you'll learn how to assess project costs, engage with suppliers and contribute to winning bids for projects worth millions of pounds.

This role is ideal for graduates in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or Construction Management, particularly those with placement or site experience.

Qualifications

  • Degree in QS/Engineering or related; placement/year-out or 1–3 years in construction desirable.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Excel and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of cost estimates and tender submissions for construction and civil engineering projects.
  • Assist with reviewing tender documentation and project specifications.
  • Obtain and analyse quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Help prepare quantities, cost data and pricing information using estimating software.
  • Attend site visits and gather information to support the estimating process.
  • Work closely with estimators, project teams and supply chain partners to develop competitive bids.
  • Assist with maintaining supplier and subcontractor databases and records.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating processes and best practice.

Farrans is seeking a Trainee Estimator to join our Pre-Contract team. With mentoring, training and clear development pathways, this is a fantastic first step towards a successful career in estimating, commercial management or project delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Support the preparation of cost estimates and tender submissions for construction and civil engineering projects.

Qualifications
  • Degree qualified (or working towards completion) in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Industrial placement, year-out experience, summer placement or 1 to 3 years' experience within a construction environment is desirable.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good attention to detail and organisational ability.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with colleagues and external partners.
  • A genuine interest in construction, commercial management and project delivery.
  • Enthusiastic, motivated and eager to learn and develop a long-term career with Farrans.
