Job summary

NY Highways in North Yorkshire is seeking a Trainee Electrical Supervisor to support street lighting across one of England's largest highway networks.

You will lead a team replacing ageing assets, coordinate emergency fault repairs and develop apprentices, with mentoring and structured training to progress to a supervisor position. The role offers salary progression, generous leave, and a Royal London pension scheme.

Qualifications

  • City and Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in electrical installation
  • Wiring Regulations – 18th Edition
  • Experience in highway electrical activities as an agent, supervisor or equivalent
  • Knowledge of current guidance and legislation with respect to street lighting, electrical design, inspection and maintenance
  • Ability to reach sites across North Yorkshire

Salary: From £34,796 as a trainee moving to a salary starting at £38,622 as a Street Lighting Supervisor

Contract: Permanent Full Time (40 hours)

As a Trainee Electrical Supervisor at NY Highways, you'll support the delivery and maintenance of street lighting infrastructure across one of England's largest highway networks, serving communities from the coast to the Dales.

Your work will be varied and can include:

  • Leading a team replacing ageing lighting assets
  • Coordinating emergency fault repairs
  • Supporting EV charging infrastructure projects
  • Carrying out HEA/HERS assessments
  • Working with clients and contractors on major schemes
  • Developing apprentices and new starters

What you bring:

You will be able to use your industry knowledge and experience to supportwork streams for both planned and emergency programmes of work, making sure they fit in with time, safety, and financial timescales. You will maintain accurate records of site activities and setting financial budgets and you will be responsible for ensuring your team are compliant and have their HEA portfolio and assessments up to date.

You will be able to motivate others and be confident leading and mentoring junior colleagues including the onboarding of new starters and apprentices. Taking part in staff appraisals, being a support for your colleagues and setting safety performance measures will all be important aspects of this role whilst developing your skills as a leader.

We will offer the support and training needed in your role to enable you to progress from trainee to supervisor level, allowing you to progress in your career when a role becomes available.

To be successful in this role you will have:
  • City and Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in electrical installation
