Job summary

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust in Wakefield is offering a trainee post in the Clinical Coding Department. The role focuses on reading patient records and assigning ICD-10 and OPCS-4 codes within national deadlines, with full training provided.

The role is a structured training post leading to the National Clinical Coding Qualification, and staff may work across trust hospitals as required. Shortlisted candidates are invited to an assessment morning.

Qualifications

• Minimum A level or equivalent qualification.
• Experience in a healthcare setting.
• General office experience.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Screen electronic and paper patient records to identify diagnoses and procedures for the full episode of care.
• Translate clinical information into ICD-10 and OPCS-4 codes using approved systems.
• Review patient records and extract information relevant to the full episode of care.
• Ensure coded data is accurate, complete and entered within national timescales.
• Liaise with clinical and administrative staff to obtain missing or unclear information.
