Young Devon in Newton Abbot is offering a Trainee Children’s and Young Persons Wellbeing Practitioner post. The role supports early intervention mental health services for 8-18 year olds, under supervision, and forms part of a national programme with Exeter University delivering the training.

The position is full-time (37 hours per week), fixed-term for 12 months, based in Newton Abbot with travel within Devon, and starts January 2027. Salary is £26,414 per annum.

Salary - £26,414 per annum. Full-time - 37 hours per week

Fixed-Term contract for 12 months, with an aim to seek continued funding.

We have been supporting the wellbeing of young people in Devon for over 20 years and this is a chance to work for a respected local Charity within an established experienced team. We are looking for someone who shares our values and enjoys working with young people to continue to develop the offer and respond to local need. This is an employment-based training role forming part of a national programme to expand the mental health workforce offering support to children and young people at a stage of early intervention.

The role involves delivering (under supervision) high-quality, outcome-informed, evidence-based interventions for children and young people aged 8-18 years experiencing mild to moderate anxiety, low mood and behavioural difficulties. Training and service experience will equip the post holder with the necessary knowledge, attitudes and capabilities to operate effectively in an inclusive, value-driven service.

The training is delivered by Exeter University. The post holder will be expected to attend all university taught and self-study days as specified within the agreed national curriculum, and work in the service for the remaining days of the week using their newly developed skills.

Employment and training will start in January 2027. The University course is a 12-month programme.
