Job summary

DFDS UK & Ireland is looking for a Trailer Fitter to join our busy workshop in Immingham. You'll service, repair and inspect trailers to keep them safe, compliant and roadworthy on a 4 on 4 off shift.

You’ll work hands-on, diagnose faults, complete paperwork, and support related tasks such as tug driving or forklift operation where licensed. A practical, safety‑conscious approach and ability to work well in a team are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in trailer fitting, HGV maintenance, automotive or mechanical roles.
• No formal qualifications required, but any relevant qualifications are desirable.
• Practical, safety conscious, able to work in a busy workshop.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out trailer servicing, maintenance, and repairs in line with manufacturer specifications.
• Diagnosing faults and completing repairs to ensure trailers remain safe and roadworthy.
• Completing all required maintenance paperwork and inspection records accurately.
• Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment.
• Following all health and safety procedures and company standards.
• Supporting additional operational activities such as tug driving, forklift operation, and refuelling refrigerated trailers where appropriately licensed.
• Working closely with colleagues to ensure workloads are completed efficiently and to a high standard.

About the role

Working a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, you'll play a key role in maintaining DFDS trailers and equipment, as well as supporting external customers where required. You'll be responsible for carrying out servicing, repairs, and inspections to ensure all equipment remains safe, compliant, and operational.

About you

Previous trailer fitting, HGV maintenance, automotive, or mechanical experience is essential. While no formal qualifications are required, any HGV, trailer, vehicle maintenance, or automotive qualifications would be highly desirable.

You’ll be practical, safety conscious, and comfortable working in a busy workshop environment. Strong attention to detail, a positive attitude, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are important. You’ll also be willing to support a variety of tasks to help keep operations running smoothly.
