Job summary

Hampshire County Council's Safer Roads and Parking Team is recruiting in the Traffic and Safety Group. This hybrid role can be carried out from home, drop-in centres, the Winchester HQ and external locations, with work on live highway sites.

You will help deliver and monitor Traffic and Safety schemes, identify and deliver safety initiatives, and support other highways functions. You will work with external partners such as the Police and local councils, using MS Office tools to contribute

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist in the delivery and monitoring of Traffic and Safety schemes.
• Identify, devise and deliver schemes to enhance road safety and efficiency.
• Provide support for other highways and transport functions.
• Collaborate with external partners (Police, District/Borough Councils, other public bodies).
• Manage budgets for highway projects where applicable.

It is a hybrid and flexible working role which can be carried out from home and drop-in centres throughout the County as well as the County Council Headquarters in Winchester and external locations, and does include work on live highway sites.

What you'll do:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team and play a key part in keeping Hampshire moving and making the roads safer. In an engineering role you will assist in the delivery and monitoring of the Traffic and Safety scheme programmes, be involved in identifying, devising and delivering schemes and initiatives that will enhance the safety and efficiency of the road network for all highway users, as well as providing support for other highways and transport functions. This will include working closely with our external partner organisations such as the Police, District and Borough Councils, and other public bodies and representatives, as well as internal partner groups.

We're looking for a well-organised and proactive individual with strong communication skills and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams/Zoom. Educated to GCSE level (including Maths and English), you will be able to work independently, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and contribute effectively as part of a team.

You will have an understanding of road user safety and the principles of improving road user behaviour, with the ability to apply your knowledge to support the development and delivery of highway safety and traffic management projects, including budget management. Previous experience in traffic management, road safety, or highway engineering would be advantageous, but is not essential.
