Job summary

Zurich in London is seeking an experienced Trade Credit Underwriter to join our Global Specialties team. You will underwrite complex Trade Credit risks across diverse sectors, align decisions with pricing frameworks, and support brokers and customers with tailored solutions.

Joining our Trade Credit & Surety unit, you will build broker relationships, contribute to portfolio growth, and help drive profitable growth with strong credit and financial analysis.

Qualifications

• Proven experience underwriting Trade Credit with strong credit risk assessment.
• Ability to analyze financial statements and market trends.
• Knowledge of Trade Credit insurance products and policy wording.
• Strong relationship-building with brokers, customers, and internal teams.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite within personal underwriting authority and advise credit committee.
• Participate on credit committees to approve larger facilities.
• Negotiate wordings, structures, facilities and limits in the structured credit space.
• Act as referral point for other members of the team.
• Develop pipeline of enquiries and broker relationships.
• Identify and develop new Trade Credit products and target segments.

You'll play a key role in driving profitable growth, building strong broker relationships and shaping the continued success of our Trade Credit business.

Joining our Global Specialties business in London, you'll be a key member of our Trade Credit & Surety team, helping to grow and develop our portfolio by delivering exceptional service, market insight, and underwriting expertise to brokers and customers.

As a Trade Credit Underwriter, you'll take on significant responsibility for underwriting complex Trade Credit risks across a diverse range of industry sectors, ensuring every decision aligns with our underwriting strategy, risk appetite, authorities, and pricing frameworks. Leveraging your strong credit and financial analysis capabilities, you'll assess buyer and debtor risk, support brokers and customers with tailored solutions, and contribute directly to the achievement of our Trade Credit business's strategic and operational objectives.

What will you be doing?

• Underwriting within individual underwriting authority and for providing recommendations for approval by credit committee for facilities outside of individual underwriting authority.


• Participation on credit committees with authority alongside other credit committee members to approve larger facilities underwritten bythe team.


• Negotiate wordings, structures, facilities and limits in the structured credit space.


• Act as referral point for other members of the team.


• Develop a pipeline of enquiries, internal Zurich relationships, cross selling and broker relationships.


• Identifying and developing new Trade Credit and Structured Credit products and target segments.


• Implementing new operational improvements.

What are we looking for?

• Proven experience underwriting Trade Credit business, with a strong understanding of credit risk assessment and portfolio management.


• Strong financial and commercial acumen, with the ability to analyse financial statements, market intelligence, and economic trends to make sound underwriting decisions.


• Excellent understanding of Trade Credit insurance products, policy structures, and coverage wordings.


• Strong relationship-building skills, with a collaborative approach to working with brokers, customers, and internal stakeholders.


• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the confidence to influence, challenge, and engage at all levels.


• Proven ability to identify profitable growth opportunities while maintaining strong underwriting discipline.


• Ideally, an established network of broker and market relationships within the UK Trade Credit and broader Commercial Insurance market.
