Job summary

Shepton Mallet Town Council is seeking a Town Ranger to maintain Collett Park and the town centre to a high standard. The role involves border maintenance, hedge trimming, pruning, planting and watering, plus pond and island upkeep.

You will repaint and mend street furniture, remove graffiti, hand weed within the town centre map, and build community relations with businesses and groups; occasional support for litter picks and events.

The Purpose of the Role

The aim of this role is to maintain high standards of appearance and condition in Collett Park and Shepton Mallet town centre. Collett Park is approximately 14 acres of green space including lawns, mature trees, a stream, boating pond, and play equipment. This role will involve regular maintenance of planted borders, including hedge trimming, pruning, planting and watering where required. Work will also be required to clean and maintain the pond and island.

The role will at the same time be key to keeping the town centre attractive, clean and tidy. This will involve managing practical upkeep including repainting and mending street furniture, removing graffiti, and hand weeding within the boundary of the town centre map (attached). A good working relationship with the Somerset Council contractor responsible for ground care will be important.

The role will also help with works fostering good community relations with businesses and community organisations and helping to nurture a culture of active shop front management in the town centre. The role will also involve occasional support for community-led events and activities such as litter picking events or weeding events.
