Job summary

Wotton-under-Edge Town Council is seeking a dedicated Caretaker to maintain cleanliness, safety and readiness of community buildings in Wotton-under-Edge. The role is hands-on, focused on cleaning, basic maintenance, room setup and supporting events.

The post is permanent, part-time (5 hours per week) with occasional evenings and weekends for meetings and operational needs, acting as a keyholder and providing a friendly, reliable presence for hirers and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain buildings and spaces to a safe, tidy standard.
• Assist with room setup and event support as required.
• Carry out routine checks and replenish supplies.
• Act as keyholder and support hirers and visitors when needed.
• Set up and pack away furniture and equipment for events.
• Keep indoor and outdoor areas tidy and well presented.
• Support Estates team with practical tasks to keep facilities in good condition.

Location: Wotton-under-Edge Town Council, The Civic Centre, 2 Gloucester Street, Wotton-under-Edge, GL12 7DN

Salary: £26,427- £27,274 per annum pro rata (SCP 5-7)

Contract: Permanent, Part-Time. 5 hours per week with evening for meetings and some weekends for operational needs

Wotton-under-Edge Town Council is looking for a Caretaker who enjoys practical work and takes pride in keeping spaces clean, tidy and easy for people to use. As more groups and residents make use of our facilities, we're strengthening our team to ensure our buildings remain well looked after and ready for day‑to‑day activity.

About the role

This is a hands‑on role focused on cleaning, basic maintenance, room setup and supporting events. You will act as a keyholder, carry out routine checks, replenish supplies and assist hirers and visitors when needed. You'll help set up and pack away furniture and equipment, keep indoor and outdoor areas tidy, and support the Estates team with practical tasks.

Working alongside the Estates Officer and Deputy Estates Manager, you’ll play an important part in keeping our buildings running smoothly and ensuring users have a positive experience when they visit Council facilities.

• Confidence carrying out practical tasks, including lifting, moving and setup
• A tidy, organised approach and strong attention to detail
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently
• A friendly, professional manner when interacting with the public
• Reliability, punctuality and pride in maintaining community spaces
• Willingness to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends
• DIY skills are helpful, but what matters most is your reliability, your practical approach and your commitment to keeping community facilities in good condition.
