Job description

We're looking for a Planner or Senior Planner to join our growing Infrastructure Consents team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on some of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects across transport, energy, electricity transmission, renewable energy and commercial infrastructure. You'll support clients through the planning and consenting process, helping to secure the approvals needed to bring nationally important projects forward.

Working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, you'll gain exposure to a wide range of consenting regimes and infrastructure sectors, while developing your technical expertise, client-facing skills and project management experience.

Why Join Carter Jonas?

As part of our Infrastructure Consents team, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Work on major infrastructure and renewable energy projects across the UK.
  • Develop expertise in infrastructure planning and consenting.
  • Gain exposure to Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) and Development Consent Orders (DCOs).
  • Collaborate with industry-leading specialists across planning, land, environment and infrastructure.
  • Build strong client relationships and contribute to high-profile project delivery.
  • Progress your career within a growing and supportive team.

We offer a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Matched pension contributions
  • Life assurance
  • Hybrid and agile working
  • Health cash plan
  • Electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting the development and delivery of planning and consenting strategies for major infrastructure projects.
  • Preparing, reviewing and coordinating consent applications, including DCOs, TWAOs, Section 36 and TCPA applications.
  • Working alongside multidisciplinary project teams to deliver projects efficiently and to programme.
  • Building strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, statutory consultees and regulatory bodies.
  • Supporting project management activities, including programme coordination, reporting and risk management.
  • Assisting with stakeholder engagement and public consultation activities.
  • Providing planning and consenting advice across multiple infrastructure sectors.
  • Preparing planning reports, supporting documents and examination materials.
  • Contributing to business development and the growth of existing client relationships.

What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from motivated planners who are passionate about infrastructure and want to play a key role in delivering major projects.

This role is likely to suit candidates with:

  • Around 2-3 years' experience for Planner level.
  • 4+ years' experience for Senior Planner level.

You'll also have:

  • Experience working within the UK planning system and applying planning legislation and policy.
  • Experience preparing and submitting planning applications and supporting documentation.
  • The ability to identify planning risks, constraints and opportunities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A proactive, collaborative and client-focused approach.

Experience within infrastructure sectors such as transport, energy, renewable energy or utilities would be advantageous.

Experience of NSIPs, DCOs or other infrastructure consenting regimes is beneficial but not essential. We're equally interested in candidates with a strong planning background who are keen to develop their expertise within the infrastructure sector.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career within a highly regarded Infrastructure team, working on complex and nationally significant projects. You'll be supported by experienced colleagues, given genuine responsibility from day one and encouraged to broaden your expertise across planning, consenting and project delivery.
