Job Overview

The Town Council, serving the community of Ystradgynlais, is seeking a dedicated Town Clerk to support its governance and community development initiatives. The council comprises 16 elected councillors and manages an annual budget of approximately £500,000, representing around 6,500 residents.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic and administrative leadership for the council.
  • Advise the council on governance, legal, and procedural matters.
  • Manage staff and oversee financial and operational functions.
  • Represent the council in external discussions and partnerships.
  • Support policy development and implementation.
  • Attend evening and occasional weekend meetings.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience in local government or similar complex environments.
  • Understanding of local government law and procedures.
  • Sound financial management skills.
  • Proficiency in Office IT applications.
  • Possession of or working towards a professional qualification such as the Certificate in Local Council Administration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including Welsh language skills (desirable but not essential).
