We have a fantastic opportunity available for a Town Centre Development Officer to join our proactive Economic Development team at Wokingham Borough Council, on a full time, 2-year fixed term contract.

As the Town Centre Development Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting and developing the main centres in Central Wokingham, Woodley, and Twyford. This role involves leading the implementation of the new Town Centre strategy, working with businesses and partners to boost economic vitality.

You will build strong relationships with local stakeholders and drive initiatives that support sustainable business growth. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to help shape the future of the borough through innovation and collaboration!

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to establish an effective partnership board spanning across all town centres.
  • Design, implement and lead on programmes and projects that will attract footfall into our Town Centres and support economic growth.
  • Manage our footfall contract, using the interactive dashboard to integrate data to enable us to make data informed decisions.
  • Work with colleagues in business support e.g., the Berkshire Growth Hub to deliver business support to ensure growth and sustainability for our Town Centre businesses.
  • Support the economic development team and members of the wider council with engaging and maintaining close working relationships with local employers.

Candidate Requirements

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject.
  • Town Centre business development experience or experience in developing or managing a BID.
  • Demonstrable experience of target setting, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret complex information, policy and guidance to inform the development of local strategies, policies and procedures and represent good practice.
  • Experience of managing, high-profile projects involving a broad range of partners stakeholders to achieve defined outcomes.
