Job summary

Yolk Recruitment is seeking an experienced Toolmaker for its South Wales operation in Tredegar. The role involves diagnosing faults, repairing and rebuilding injection mould tools, and performing precision machining to tight tolerances.

You will join a skilled team, support new tool introductions and share expertise with developing Toolmakers. The position is permanent, days-based with regular Friday finish times, and offers an attractive salary aligned with experience (£38,000–£45,000).

Qualifications

• Requires a recognised Toolmaking apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience maintaining, repairing and modifying precision tooling, ideally in plastic injection moulding.
• Strong manual machining and precision fitting skills and ability to read engineering drawings.
• Experience stripping, inspecting and rebuilding mould tools with understanding of components and operation.
• Ability to diagnose tooling faults and implement practical solutions, not just component replacement.

Toolmaker - Injection Moulding

Tredegar | £38,000 - £45,000 depending on experience

Days, Monday to Friday | Early finish on Fridays | Overtime available

Yolk Recruitment is working with an established international manufacturer to recruit an experienced Toolmaker for its South Wales operation. This is a permanent, days-based position offering varied technical work, an experienced engineering team and the opportunity to take ownership of tooling repairs and improvements within a busy manufacturing environment.

The business has a long history of manufacturing in South Wales and is part of an established international group supplying major automotive manufacturers and the aftermarket. Staff retention is strong, with many employees having spent decades with the company, and opportunities to join the Toolmaking team are rare. The site has a strong long-term order book and has recently invested in five new injection moulding machines, alongside its established, well-equipped toolroom.

The role offers a good variety of technical work, from precision machining and smaller tooling repairs through to more involved fault finding and modifications. You'll work alongside experienced engineers and a team of developing Toolmakers, with the opportunity to share your knowledge while continuing to develop your own skills. With regular day shifts, an early finish every Friday and voluntary overtime available, it's an opportunity to enjoy interesting, practical work without the demands of a rotating shift pattern.

What you'll be doing

• Diagnosing and repairing faults with injection mould tools, identifying the underlying causes of tooling failures and production problems.
• Stripping, inspecting, repairing and rebuilding mould tools, including the manufacture and replacement of individual tooling components.
• Using manual machining and precision fitting equipment to carry out repairs and modifications to the required tolerances.
• Working closely with Production, Maintenance and Engineering to resolve tooling issues affecting product quality or manufacturing performance.
• Supporting the introduction of new mould tools, including their preparation, modification and ongoing improvement.
• Sharing your experience with less experienced colleagues and apprentices, helping to develop their technical knowledge without taking on formal people management responsibilities.

What we're looking for

We're looking for an experienced Toolmaker who can work independently, diagnose problems and take responsibility for repairs from initial investigation through to completion. You'll need:

• A recognised Toolmaking apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience maintaining, repairing and modifying precision tooling, ideally within plastic injection moulding.
• Strong manual machining and precision fitting skills, with the ability to work accurately from engineering drawings.
• Experience stripping, inspecting and rebuilding mould tools, with a good understanding of their components and operating principles.
• The ability to diagnose tooling faults and identify practical solutions, rather than simply replacing damaged components.
• A willingness to work closely with production and engineering colleagues, responding to changing priorities while maintaining high standards of workmanship.

Experience within an injection moulding environment would be particularly relevant, although we'd also be interested in speaking with experienced Toolmakers from other precision tooling backgrounds who have the practical skills to make the transition.
