Job summary

Polypipe Building Products in Doncaster (Genuit Group) is seeking a skilled Toolmaker. You will maintain and repair tooling to high standards, support press operations, and ensure tool readiness and quality across production runs.

The candidate should have apprentice-trained toolmaker credentials, be proficient with conventional tooling, and capable of preventative maintenance on tooling. Shift work and a competitive package are offered.

Qualifications

• Must be able to understand and use conventional machines such as lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, band saws and bench work with hand grinders.
• Ability to measure and inspect parts and read engineering drawings.
• Possess metallurgical skills and knowledge of strength of materials.
• Experience of preventative maintenance on production tooling.
• Familiar with close tolerances using a micrometre, dial test indicators, height gauges, bore micrometre and gauges.
• Plan and lay out a variety of complicated machine and bench operations related to tooling, jigs, fixtures and moulds.

Responsibilities

• Carry out tool checks per plan, ensure correct inserts and production quality.
• Cover press breakdowns to minimise downtime; repair or replace parts as needed.
• Perform insert changes and replace cores, shells and inserts to create socket/spigot parts.
• Full strip down, rebuild and repair of tools; ensure quality before release.
• Log tools with red tags for issues and arrange repairs where possible.
• Turn new parts such as angle pins, core pins and locking blocks.
• Assess tools to determine work required to improve quality.
• Date and engraving pad changes; change damaged hot runner parts and rebuild.
• Water test tooling and repair hydraulics if parts are unavailable.
• Strip, repair, polish, machine and rebuild extrusion tooling to production standard.
