Job summary

Miles Platts Limited in Blaby, Leicestershire, is seeking a Tool Maintenance Technician to provide dedicated maintenance and servicing support for the company’s plastic injection mould tooling. You will perform planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs to keep moulds ready for production.

You will work with Production and Toolroom teams to prioritise maintenance, identify wear or defects, and maintain accurate service histories while following health and safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • Experience with injection mould tooling and maintenance.
  • Able to strip and rebuild tooling accurately.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance systems.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities.
  • Familiarity with bolsters, inserts and mould components.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on injection mould tools.
  • Strip, clean, inspect and service moulds and components.
  • Identify worn or defective components and recommend actions.
  • Maintain tool maintenance records and service history.
  • Liaise with Production and Toolroom to prioritise maintenance.

Tool Maintenance Technician
Job Purpose

Located at our site in Blaby, Leicestershire, this role is to provide dedicated maintenance and servicing support for the company’s plastic injection mould tooling. The role will focus on preventative and reactive tool maintenance, ensuring moulds and associated tooling are maintained to a high standard and available for production when required.

The position will reduce the amount of routine maintenance currently undertaken by skilled toolmakers, allowing them to focus on new tool manufacture, modifications and higher-value tooling activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on injection mould tools.
  • Strip, clean, inspect and service moulds and associated components.
  • Identify worn, damaged or defective components and recommend corrective action.
  • Carry out routine repairs and replacement of mould components.
  • Maintain and service bolsters and associated tooling equipment.
  • Prepare spare bolsters and tooling for production use.
  • Manufacture replacement parts for bolsters, tools and insert tools.
  • Ensure tools are returned to production in a clean, serviceable and ready-to-use condition.
  • Support reactive maintenance when production issues occur.
  • Record maintenance activities, faults, repairs and component replacements.
  • Maintain accurate tool maintenance records and service history.
  • Help establish and maintain planned service intervals based on tool usage/shots.
  • Liaise with Production and Toolroom personnel to prioritise maintenance requirements.
  • Identify recurring tool issues and highlight opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe maintenance area.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures and health and safety requirements.
Key Skills & Experience
  • Experience working with injection mould tools or similar mechanical tooling.
  • Good mechanical fitting and assembly skills.
  • Ability to strip and rebuild tooling accurately.
  • Ability to identify wear, damage and potential tooling problems.
  • Good understanding of injection mould construction and components.
  • Ability to use standard workshop equipment and hand tools.
  • Basic machining skills.
  • Basic surface grinding skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities.
  • Previous experience within a plastic injection moulding environment.
  • Toolmaking or mechanical engineering background.
  • CAD/CAM.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance systems.
  • Experience maintaining bolsters, inserts and mould components.
  • Experience using measurement equipment.
  • Experience recording maintenance activity within a manufacturing/production system.
