Job summary

Rolls-Royce Defence in Bristol is seeking a Tool Engineer to join the Shadow Works team. You will maintain and improve tooling and fixtures to support production efficiency, quality and safety, working with cross-functional teams and external suppliers in a high-performance environment.

The role involves tooling concepts for new product introductions, calibration control, safety risk assessments, and layout improvements to optimise workflow and space.

Qualifications

  • Completed engineering apprenticeship or equivalent with NVQ level 3.
  • Experience in tooling control, preferably in aerospace, automotive or precision engineering.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings; CAD knowledge helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Support tooling concepts, development and validation for new products.
  • Track and manage Government owned assets and tooling.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of tooling issues and implement corrective action.
  • Oversee calibration control to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Assist with layout improvements to optimise workflow and space.
  • Manage lifting-related tooling within the facility.
  • Conduct and document COSHH and safety risk assessments.

Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Tool Engineer to join the Shadow Works team within Defence in Bristol. As a Tooling Engineer, you will play a critical role in maintaining and improving tooling and fixtures to support production efficiency, quality and safety. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and external suppliers to deliver solutions that meet the demands of a high-performance production environment.

What you will be doing
  • Support new product introduction with tooling concepts, development and validation.
  • Track and manage Government owned assets and tooling used within the facility.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of tooling related issues and implement corrective action.
  • Oversee calibration control to ensure compliance.
  • Support layout improvements within the production environment to enhance workflow, efficiency, and space utilisation.
  • Management and tracking of lifting related tooling within the facility.
  • Conduct, manage and control COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) and safety risk assessments for the business.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety standards.

  • You will have a completed a recognised Engineering apprenticeship and hold a relevant NVQ level 3 qualification or equivalent.

  • An understanding of CAD and/or the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Hands-on approach and ability to work cross-functionally in fast paced environments.
  • A proactive problem solver with strong communication and collaborative skills.
  • Experience in safety risk assessments and supporting safety compliance standards.
