Job description

Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.

As a Lead Analyst, Compliance Operations you’ll join a high functioning team of passionate support professionals who know their performance is critical to Coinbase achieving its mission. At Coinbase we have a high hiring bar and we’re determined to create a productive, progressive, inclusive place to work. If you’re looking to work for a mission driven, employee first organization, please apply today.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

Team Leadership & People Management (70%)

  • Lead and mentor a team of investigators and analysts, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback.
  • Oversee daily operations of the TMS (Transaction Monitoring System) team, ensuring timely and accurate case handling.
  • Act as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert (SME) for TMS-related inquiries and escalations.
  • Collaborate closely with Compliance and other key stakeholders to resolve case ambiguities and drive process clarity.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analyses (RCA) based on QC/QA findings and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Drive operational excellence through process optimization and cross-functional program management, including coordination with BPO vendors.
  • Monitor implementation of corrective actions, ensuring effectiveness and sustainable impact.

Casework Oversight & Strategic Support (30%)

  • Supervise complex AML and fraud investigations involving blockchain transactions, ensuring investigative rigor and compliance.
  • Review and validate SARs, KYC profiles, and due diligence research conducted by the team.
  • Ensure high-quality documentation and escalation practices, maintaining alignment with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Analyze patterns and trends to inform training needs, policy enhancements, and future risk mitigation strategies.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • Degree or equivalent
  • ACAMS or other professional certification related to AML, Fraud, and/or blockchain/crypto investigation (not required, but a major plus)
  • Minimum 4 years professional experience and 3 years relevant compliance experience (conducting AML/Fraud investigations, SARs preparation and filing and leading teams)
  • Experience working in a fast paced production environment with competing priorities and shifting procedural requirements with an emphasis on production and quality
  • Experience in project management, process improvement, process mapping, or procedure writing
  • Working knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communications (verbal and written) skills
  • Excellent grasp of English grammar and strong English language writing skills

Nice to haves:

  • Proficient in Google Suite and blockchain analysis (e.g. Chainalysis).
