Job overview

A maternity cover post has arisen for a 30 hours per week band 7, tissue viability nurse specialist.

The tissue viability team consists of specialists who work closely with community nurses, practice nurses, other specialist nurses, and care homes across the RSFT. The team provides clinical advice on all wound management in the community setting and monitors and drives down pressure ulcer incidence across the community division.

Main duties of the job
  1. The applicant needs to have a passion for treating individuals with wounds and lymphoedema.
  2. Applicants will need to demonstrate the ability to promote high standards of care with a desire to consistently improve patient outcomes and an ability to work independently.
  3. The applicant needs to have evidence of recent related continuous professional development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Royal Surrey Foundation Trust (RSFT) is a clinically led NHS trust providing joined-up care by bridging the gap between hospital and community services. Royal Surrey Foundation Trust is working in partnership with Procare Health (a Federation for GP practices in Guildford and Waverley) providing adult community health services. The Tissue Viability service works very closely with district nurses, GPs, social care, local hospitals, other specialist nurses, therapists, and others to help individuals manage their own conditions, maintain their independence, and remain at home wherever possible.

Qualifications
  • To hold a specialist tissue viability qualification at degree level or above.
  • Degree level education in a relevant specialist area.
  • Masters level education in a relevant specialist area.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Extensive knowledge of tissue viability specialty, acquired through postgraduate course or equivalent experience. Wound care including pressure ulcers and leg ulcer expertise.
  • Evidence of post-qualifying and continuing professional development. Evidence of courses, conferences, and study days. Be able to demonstrate how this has influenced practice.
  • Must have an understanding of the national wound care strategy and current healthcare policy/national guidance and appreciate the implications of this on the tissue viability field.
  • Member of Nursing and Midwifery Council and other relevant organizations/professional bodies relevant to the post.
