Job summary

Synechron in London is seeking an experienced Data Scientist focused on time series forecasting and Microsoft Fabric to join our ML and data science team. You will design and deploy forecasting models (ARIMA, exponential smoothing) and build ML models with XGBoost, using Fabric data pipelines to prep data, evaluate performance, and communicate results to business stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field.
• 4+ years of data science experience or equivalent.
• Hands-on ARIMA or similar time-series modeling.
• Experience with XGBoost and gradient boosting models.
• Strong Python skills with Pandas/Statsmodels/Scikit-learn.
• Proficient in PySpark and SQL.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and validate time-series forecasting models using ARIMA, exponential smoothing, and similar methods.
• Develop and tune machine learning models using XGBoost and other gradient-boosting techniques.
• Use Microsoft Fabric data pipelines to ingest, clean, transform, and prepare structured and time-indexed data.
• Evaluate model performance using MAPE, backtesting, RMSE, MAE, and other metrics.
• Perform feature engineering, model selection, validation, and iterative improvement.
• Deploy and monitor models in production, ensuring forecasts refresh reliably through Fabric pipelines.
• Explain modelling choices, forecast uncertainty, assumptions, and limitations to non-technical stakeholders.
• Document modelling assumptions, validation results, model performance, and governance evidence.
