Job summary

Ernest Gordon Recruitment Limited is seeking an experienced General Manager for a specialist sawmill in Herefordshire. This hands-on role oversees operations across sawmilling, health and safety, purchasing, sales and site development, with significant autonomy to drive growth.

You will partner with directors to shape strategy, build supplier and customer relationships, manage expenditure and monitor performance, travelling regularly for supplier visits and occasional overnight stays.

Qualifications

• Proven experience successfully running a business, department or operation.
• Background in sawmilling, forestry, timber, builders' merchant or building materials.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all day-to-day operations across the sawmill.
• Oversee buildings, machinery, equipment and site maintenance.
• Work across sawmilling, purchasing, sales, marketing and order fulfilment.
• Work closely with Directors on expenditure, equipment investment and business priorities.
• Monitor cashflow, pricing and overall business performance.
• Travel regularly, including occasional overnight stays and potential overseas supplier visits.
