Job summary

Ernest Gordon Recruitment Limited is seeking an experienced General Manager for a specialist sawmill in Herefordshire. This hands-on role oversees operations across sawmilling, health and safety, purchasing, sales and site development, with significant autonomy to drive growth.

You will partner with directors to shape strategy, build supplier and customer relationships, manage expenditure and monitor performance, travelling regularly for supplier visits and occasional overnight stays.

Qualifications

• Proven experience successfully running a business, department or operation.
• Background in sawmilling, forestry, timber, builders' merchant or building materials.
• Full UK driving licence.

Are you an experienced General Manager from a sawmilling, timber, forestry or building materials background looking for a hands‑on role where you can take ownership of operations and help drive business growth?

This established specialist sawmill processes and supplies high-quality hardwood and softwood timbers from UK woodlands. With the business continuing to grow, they are looking for a General Manager to oversee operations and work closely with the Directors to shape the future development of the company.

This is a varied, autonomous role overseeing operations, Health & Safety, purchasing, sales and site development, whilst working closely with a leadership team. You will also develop supplier and customer relationships, influence business strategy and make a genuine impact on the future direction of the business.

This role would suit an experienced General Manager or Operations Manager from a sawmilling, forestry or building materials background looking for a varied, hands‑on position with significant autonomy and the opportunity to influence business growth.
