University Hospitals Dorset is seeking an enthusiastic Therapy Assistant to join the Elective Orthopaedics team. You will support assessment, pre and post-operative treatment, and discharge planning for Orthopaedic inpatients and day-case patients.

You will help provide walking aids, maintain accurate records, and work flexibly to cover the team’s 7-day pattern. The role is permanent, 37.5 hours per week, based at Royal Bournemouth Hospital with relocation to Poole expected March 2027.

Qualifications

  • NVQ III Care/Promoting Independence/ Diagnostic and Therapeutic Support or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in direct patient care within a therapy or care setting.
  • Awareness of rehabilitation techniques and patient handling.

Responsabilités

  • Assess and assist in pre and post-operative treatment for orthopaedic inpatients and day-case patients.
  • Discharge planning and provision of walking aids/equipment to support timely discharge.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment provision and delivery within the team.
  • Work flexible hours and participate in 7-day pattern as required.

Job overview

The Team provides a high quality, patient centred service to the inpatient Orthopaedic service, working closely with the multi disciplinary team. Rehabilitation programs are implemented to maximise post operative function and patient satisfaction within an efficient service. Senior team leadership provides a supportive working and learning environment.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Therapy Assistant to join our team. You will participate in the assessment, pre and post operative treatment, management and discharge planning of our Orthopaedic inpatients and day case surgery patients. You will be responsible for the prescription and provision of appropriate walking aids and equipment to facilitate timely discharge. You will be responsible for keeping accurate records of equipment provision for the team and delivering equipment to other areas of the hospital.

You will have excellent communication skills, be highly organised and have the ability to manage a busy clinical caseload. You will have the ability to work flexibly and participate in the team’s evening and 7 day work patterns to ensure optimal patient care and throughput. Weekend working is usually based on a 1 in 4 pattern. Flexible working pattern will be considered.

This is a permanent position for 37.5 Hours per week.

Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital, moving to Poole - expected March 2027.

  • Ability to drive a manual car and hold a clean driver’s license
Qualifications

  • Previous work as Therapy/Care Assistant, where direct patient care is involved
  • Working with patients with Physical Impairment and/or Cognitive dysfunction
