Job summary

TVCC in London, Ontario, is recruiting a Therapeutic Recreation Assistant for the Early Childhood, School Age and Adolescent Program (ECSAAP). The role involves assisting Recreation Therapists with TR interventions and family engagement across TVCC sites and events.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure.
• Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard preferred; must obtain Lifesaving for Lay Rescuers certification.
• Knowledge of child development and childhood disabilities.
• Communication (written and verbal); organizational, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
• Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office 365 and videoconferencing software (Teams).
• Valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a vehicle required.

Responsibilities

• Assist Recreation Therapists with developing, planning, facilitating, documenting, and evaluating TR interventions.
• Support and provide individual and group TR interventions to achieve client and program goals.
• Support family engagement, education, and participation programs at TVCC, including events and virtual locations.
• Provide education and information at events for community members/partners.
• Engage in ongoing consultation with TRs regarding feedback and observations.
• Facilitate programming in the Adapted Fitness Centre and support volunteers and clients.
• Orient and supervise volunteers and students; coach parents/caregivers on participation goals.
