Theatre Practitioner - Recovery

Cromwell Hospital - London, SW5 0TU

Permanent

£35,964 to £45,480 per annum (dependant on experience)

Shift pattern – Long Days 07:30 to 21:00 / Early 07:30 to 15:30 / Late 13:00 to 21:00. Weekend and on-call shifts (Saturdays and Sundays)

Full time 37.5 hours p/w.

Our main adult theatre is a busy and dynamic environment, setting the benchmark for clinical excellence. We have 6 operating suites catering for Cardiac, Orthopaedics, ENT and Ophthalmic, Plastics, General/Vascular, Urology, and Gynaecology. We work with surgeons who are the best in their specialties, carrying out procedures from simple to complex surgeries.

Responsibilities:

The Recovery Theatre Practitioner will be responsible for providing skilled clinical and technical assistance as a member of the operating theatre team, participating in the assessment of adult and paediatric patient care needs, and implementing and maintaining standards of care.

What you’ll do:
  • Participate as a post-anaesthetic care unit (recovery) nurse, providing physical and psychological care to immediate post-operative patients.
  • Help control cross-infection by observing departmental policies regarding dress, maintaining a clean environment, decontamination, sterilisation procedures, and asepsis.
  • Participate in induction and orientation programmes for new staff to ensure a welcoming environment.
  • Assist team leaders in the Personal Development Plans of junior staff.
  • Prepare patients for clinical/operative procedures, both in anaesthetics and surgery.
  • Provide immediate post-operative care.
  • Provide initial emergency care as required.
  • Take charge of the clinical area in the absence of the team leader, ensuring safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Check all equipment prior to use and report faults to the nurse in charge of recovery.
  • Participate fully as a team member, sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues to promote team cohesion and objectives.
  • Adhere to procedures for the use of supplies and ordering requirements as directed by line management.
  • Ensure accurate data collection related to theatre activity.
What you’ll bring:
  • NMC Registered Nurse (Adult and/or Children).
  • Or HCPC registered with a Diploma or Degree in Healthcare Studies / ODP Level 3 NVQ / ODA 752.
  • Previous UK recovery experience.
