Job summary

Circle Reading Hospital is seeking a Theatre Practitioner to join the Theatre department in ophthalmic, ENT and scrub roles on a 9‑month fixed term contract. The post is a full‑time 37.5 hour per week role with a flexible shift pattern and a salary up to £40,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications.

The successful candidate will be registered (NMC/HCPC) and experienced in theatre environments, contributing to safe, high quality patient care and multidisciplinary teamwork across

Responsibilities

  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient requirements.
  • Prepare instruments, maintain sterility, anticipate surgeon needs and ensure equipment safety.
  • Support Anaesthetist in equipment prep, patient monitoring and positioning; provide post-operative care.
  • Check surgical and anaesthetic equipment and report faults.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and efficient surgical lists.
  • Maintain a positive, respectful theatre environment.

We have an opportunity for an Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in theTheatre department.

This is a full time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required tocover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:
  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
  • Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment in at least one area (scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery).
  • Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
