Job summary

Circle Reading Hospital, part of Circle Health Group, is seeking a Theatre Practitioner to join the Theatre team on a full-time basis. The role requires 37.5 hours per week with a flexible shift pattern.

You will work to support the surgical team, maintain sterility and ensure patient safety throughout the perioperative period. Ideal candidates are Registered Nurses (NMC) or ODPs (HCPC) with theatre experience and a strong focus on infection control, patient safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or ODP (HCPC) is required.
  • Theatre experience in scrub, anaesthetics or recovery preferred.
  • Understanding of infection control and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt quickly.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safe surgical practice.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare instruments, maintain sterility, anticipate surgeon needs.
  • Support anaesthetist with equipment prep and patient monitoring.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type.
  • Check equipment prior to use and report faults.
  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary team for safe lists.
  • Contribute to a positive, efficient theatre environment.

Salary: Up to £40,000.00 per year (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

We have an opportunity for an Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in theTheatre department.

This is a full time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required tocover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:
  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
  • Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment in at least one area (scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery).
  • Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
