Job summary

Circle Reading Hospital, part of Circle Health Group, seeks a Theatre Practitioner to join the anaesthetics team. This is a full-time, 37.5-hour-per-week role with a salary up to £40,000 depending on experience.

You will prepare instruments, maintain sterility, support the anaesthetist, monitor patients, manage airway, and contribute to a safe, efficient theatre environment while adhering to infection control policies.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or ODP (HCPC) registration.
  • Experience or training in theatre environment specialising in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery.
  • Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare instruments, maintain sterility, and anticipate surgeon needs.
  • Support the anaesthetist with equipment prep, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning.
  • Provide post-operative care, monitor vital signs, manage pain and nausea, and prepare patient for discharge.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient requirements.
  • Check equipment prior to use and report faults.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient lists.

We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in thetheatredepartment.

This is a full time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required tocover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:

  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists
  • Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery.
  • Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
