Job summary

The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, part of Circle Health Group, is seeking a Theatre Practitioner to join their Theatres department. This role supports plastic, reconstructive, and breast procedures, delivering high-quality patient care within the operating theatre and covering a flexible shift pattern.

This full-time position requires theatre scrub experience and NMC/HCPC registration, with training provided for endoscopy.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or HCPC registered and eligible to practise.
  • Experience or training in theatre scrub and operating department procedures.
  • Understanding of infection control and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and adapt quickly to changes.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare instruments, maintain sterility and support the surgical team.
  • Assist anaesthetist with equipment prep, monitoring and positioning.
  • Provide post-operative care and manage pain and nausea as required.
  • Set up theatres according to surgery type and patient needs.
  • Endoscopy included within the role; training provided.

Salary: Up To £42,000.00 per year (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatres department. This post is aimed at an experienced Plastic and Breast Scrub Nurse with proven theatre expertise. The successful candidate will support a wide range of plastic, reconstructive, and breast procedures, delivering high-quality patient care and maintaining excellent clinical standards within the operating theatre.

This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:
  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
  • Endoscopy included within the role, training will be provided.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists
  • Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub.
  • SFA role in addition would be an advantage.
  • Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
