Job summary

The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle is recruiting a Theatre Practitioner to join the Theatres team on a full-time, permanent basis. The role is 37.5 hours per week with a salary up to £42,000 per year, depending on experience, training and qualification.

The successful candidate will work in plastics and breast theatre environments, assist the surgical team, support anaesthetist, and participate in endoscopy; training will be provided.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub.
  • Understanding of infection control and patient safety principles.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments and maintaining sterility.
  • Support the anaesthetist with equipment, monitoring, airway management and positioning.
  • Provide post-operative care and prepare patients for discharge.
  • Endoscopy included within the role; training will be provided.
  • Set up operating theatres and check equipment for faults.

The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle is part of Circle Health Group , Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in theTheatresdepartment. This post is aimed at an experienced Plastic and Breast Scrub Nurse with proven theatre expertise. The successful candidate will support a wide range of plastic, reconstructive, and breast procedures, delivering high-quality patient care and maintaining excellent clinical standards within the operating theatre.

This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required tocover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:
  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety;
  • support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning;
  • provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
  • Endoscopy included within the role, training will be provided.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
  • Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub.
  • SFA role in addition would be an advantage.
  • Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
