Job summary

Circle Health Group is seeking a Theatre Practitioner for Goring Hall Hospital in West Sussex. This full-time, 37.5-hour-per-week role offers a salary up to £38,000 per year, depending on experience, training and qualifications.

You will join a team in the Theatres department, supporting surgeons, anaesthetists and recovery staff. The role requires a registered nurse (NMC) or ODP (HCPC) with theatre experience, infection control knowledge, and strong communication under pressure.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or ODP (HCPC) as required.
  • Experience in a theatre environment, specialising in scrub, anaesthetics or recovery.
  • Understanding of infection control, manual handling and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changes and respond quickly.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare instruments, maintain sterility and anticipate surgeon needs.
  • Support anaesthetist with equipment prep, monitoring and patient positioning; assist discharge planning.
  • Set up theatres according to surgery type and patient requirements.
  • Check surgical/anaesthetic equipment and report faults.
  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe lists.
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful theatre environment.

Salary: Up to £38,000.00 per year

Goring Hall Hospital in West Sussex is part of Circle Health Group , Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatresdepartment.

This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required tocover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:
  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists
  • Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub (particularly Major Orthopaedic procedures), anaesthetics, or recovery.
  • Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
