Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking a Band 5 Theatre Perioperative Practitioner (RN/ODP) to join the Main Theatre Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The role covers 9 theatres, a 12‑bed recovery area and a 24/7 operating schedule across general, colorectal, gynaecology, ENT, urology, breast, orthopaedics and trauma.

The post is a permanent 33‑hour per week contract with various shifts (early, late, nights).

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or ODP with current registration.
• Interest in perioperative practice; enthusiastic and motivated.
• Perioperative experience is advantageous but training is provided.
• Structured mentorship and support programme available.
• PVG/Disclosure Scotland check required.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and appraisal.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality, person‑centred perioperative care as part of the MDT.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate perioperative care across surgical journey.
• Maintain clinical standards, supervise staff, and support learners.
• Participate in service development, research and audit activities.
• Ensure effective communication with patients, relatives and colleagues.
• Maintain accurate records and manage staffing, equipment and resources.
• Promote a positive learning environment and lead teams as required.
