Job description

We are seeking to appoint a Theatre and Events Technician who, along with our existing Media and Events Technician, can take responsibility for the theatre and performance spaces and support the extensive performance and exam work undertaken in the Performing Arts and Music department. The technician will also contribute to cross college events.

Duties will include assisting in the safe operation of the theatre, music and media facilities ensuring compliance with both licensing and Health and Safety matters. You will provide technical support relating to lighting, sound, video and staging both in the planning and realisation stages of production and performance including practical fabrication. Where required, you will design and operate lighting, sound and video for various College productions, student exam performances and events (this will include evening work). You will also support the continuation of the technical theatre club, training students in technical theatre roles for live performance events. You will update the equipment inventory and advise the Head of Department of necessary improvements and/or upgrades, as well as undertake first line maintenance and repairs of equipment.

The post holder will assist in the practical elements of sound and video editing, using Apple Mac computers and a range of software packages including Logic, Sibelius, Final Cut Pro, Pro Tools and Adobe CS. Where required, you will supervise and demonstrate the use of equipment to both staff and students, providing a practical framework that both enhances and supports the students' learning experience, and prepares them for further education or work in the industry. You will also support curriculum leaders in scheduling of the theatre space for exam work and external speakers and events, liaising with both internal users and external clients to ensure a high standard of service throughout.
